Only in Japan: Despite always hoping to be sent to Japan on a photographic commission the opportunity never quite arose. So when I found myself between guide books with a bit of spare time on my hands, I decided to reward myself with an excursion to the Land of the Rising Sun. To a westerner it is a land of social stereotypes and modern day myths. I wanted to seek out and photograph all things that were uniquely Japanese, the generic icons, the sights and the subjects. I wanted to take pictures of the stuff that makes Japan everything it is, that when shown to anyone, regardless of whether they had been there or not, would provoke a simple remark along the lines of "That has to be Japan, right?"
